Backup Whatsapp History :

With the latest whatsapp update, now you can save your whatsapp messages and media to google drive. So whenever you misplace your android phone or switch to new phone, your chats remain safe.

The chats files may vary in size so its recommendable to connect your phone with Wi-Fi while taking backup of your whatsapp. Mobile internet may consume more data and which cause you additional charges.

How Do I Use Google Drive Backup :

So, till now its pretty confirm that we will take whatsapp backup via google drive and now we will see how to do it. I have mentioned several steps below. You can read and perform them parallely to take backup.

1) Minimum Requirements :

There are some pre-requisite to take backup via google drive and you must fulfill all of them.

An active Google account on your phone.
Your android version must be 2.3.4 or higher.
Google play services must be installed from Google playstore.
Enough free Google drive space to take backup of your whatsapp messages, photos, videos, voice messages and audio files.
Enough free space on your phone too to create whatsapp backup.

2) Creating A Google Drive Backup :

Now after fulfilling requirements mentioned in step 1, now lets see how to create a google drive backup.

Open your whatsapp.
Press option >> Setting >> Chats and calls >> Chat backup.
click on Back up to Google Drive and set the backup frequency. By default "never" is selected. You can select daily, weekly, monthly or only when I tap "Back up".
Now you need to select Google account. In which you wanted to save your whatsapp data. If you don't have Google account, simple click on "add account" button and create one.
Tap on "Back up over" to choose network, you wish to use for backup. Please note if you use your mobile data, it may cause you some additional charges. So connect your phone to Wi-Fi.

You can also manually take backup of your whatsapp messages and media files to Google drive at any time.

Some steps remain common in this process as above.

Open your whatsapp.
Press option >> Setting >> Chats and calls >> Chat backup.
click on Back up to Google Drive and set the backup frequency other that "never".
Now tap on "back up" button to begin your Google Drive backup. This process may take couple of minutes to finish depends on speed of your internet.

3) Configuring Your Google Drive Backup Settings :

If you wanted to make several changes into your backup process say for setting frequency of backup. You can do so by following below mentioned steps.

Open your whatsapp.
Press option >> Setting >> Chats and calls >> Chat backup.
Click on "Back up to Google Drive".
Now select frequency of your linking.

If you wanted to change Google account in which you wanted to backup your whatsapp files,

Open your whatsapp.
Press option >> Setting >> Chats and calls >> Chat backup.
Click on "Account" and simply switch to the account in which you wanted to save chat history.

Note : If you change your Google account then you would not be able to access your whatsapp backup's that are linked to another Google account.

If you wanted to change the connection you wish to use for backup.

Open your whatsapp.
Press option >> Setting >> Chats and calls >> Chat backup.
Click on "Back up over" and select the network with which you want to take backup.
